Allowing foreign nationals to pursue academic studies, language training programs, or other types of vocational or technical training, the US has a long history of welcoming foreign personnel.

But the challenge here is clearing the general visa interview for the students. Here we will clear you with each and everything that you need to know.

US study Visa

A Student Visa is required for foreign nationals to study in the United States. Foreign nationals will not be able to study in the US if they have entered through a visitor visa or through the VWP (Visa Waiver Program). You can however undertake recreational studies on a tourist visa.

Mainly there are three types of visas for the US:

1.) F1 Visa -This F1 Visa is the most common visa issued to the students. The F1 visa is issued to international students for academic studies. It is issued to students attending a regular academic or an English language program.

2.) J1 Visa-A J1 Visa is issued to international students who are required to obtain practical training that is unavailable in their home country for completion of their academic program.

3.) M1 visa-An M1 visa is issued to international students attending a vocational or a non-academic school in the United States. M1 student visa holders cannot work during the course of their studies.

Annual intakes

There are three different intakes available in US universities, those are:

  • Fall Intake : Starting from September, this intake is quite famous among Indian students.
  • Spring Intake : Missed the intake of September, this intake is another chance to get to US.
  • Summer Intake : This intake usually starts around May. However, it is available only for limited programs and in a few colleges.

Eligibility for US study Visa

  • Have a completed application form
  • Proof of Secondary School completion (full 12 years)
  • Certificate of English language proficiency (preferably IELTS or TOEFL)
  • Evidence of financial support (with the I-20 form)
